The paper discusses the origin of a name Armathioni, by which a small church of St. George in Zemo Machkhaani village, Kiziki, is commonly referred to. Contrary to the previously expressed opinion that the name comes from Greek arma, armaton (carriage), the author argues that it originates from
the name of Arimathea, a city mentioned in the New Testament, which from the 12th century was identified with the Palestinian city of Ramla, near Lydda.
